Moving Along...

The young artists with which we will be working with were not familiar with the term "Public Art". Our presentation was their first introduction, so making work would be quite an exercise. Our first exercise was to walk around Kirovskii, a town outside of Kemerovo where all the artwork will be presented. We wanted them to see the space with fresh eyes. I also wanted to take them to see a mural (detail in the masthead) that was completed last year by Pasha Shugurov and Julia Avgustinovich-Angelo. This mural illustrates the site-specificity which is important when creating public artworks. The tour ended up in an old factory which was converted into artists' studios and exhibition spaces. The next day we will talk about some ideas.
